FSSAI license vs FSSAI registration

Any person or entity that does not classify as a petty food business operator is required to obtain an FSSAI license for operating a food business in India.
Under FSSAI, there are two kinds of FSSAI license, namely, the Central FSSAI license and State FSSAI license. In addition to the FSSAI License, there is also an FSSAI registration which is applicable for petty food retailers.

There are three Categories of FSSAI/ Food License, depending upon the turnover of the Food Business Operator.

- FSSAI Basic License.
- FSSAI State License.
- FSSAI Central License.

FSSAI Basic License

FSSAI Basic Registration has to be obtained by small FBOs having a turnover up to Rs. 12 Lakhs. The FBOs having a turnover exceeding Rs. Twelve lakhs need to obtain FSSAI License.

FSSAI State License

A state license is awarded to those that have a turnover of Rs. 12 lakhs to 20 crores and operate within a particular state only.

FSSAI Central License

A central license is given to those businesses that have an annual turnover of more than 20 crores and for those that operate in multiple states.

Guidelines for Selecting the Right Consultant

6. Check if their business is registered. If it is legitimate, why should it not be registered, ask yourself.

8. Get the final proposal with cost and timeline well defined in writing. This way you can hold them responsible if the license is not delivered on time.
9. Do not pay in advance. No matter how convincing they sound. Tell them that you will pay once your work is done. Period.
10. After you get your license, check with authority directly to validate its authenticity. If all is correct, only then pay.
